NAMSAI, 24 Feb: Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adviser for Arunachal Pradesh, Anindo Mazumdar visited Namsai district and held discussions with the district’s HoDs to take stock of the status of various SDG parameters, here on Thursday.
Taking note of the performances of various indicators, he stressed on the importance of convergence at the ground level.
“All goals are interlinked. Inclusive development is to be focused upon. To bring holistic development, the society is to be activated,” he said.
He urged all to put thrust on ensuring environmental safety and focus on preventive vigilance. Emphasizing the importance of early education, he advised that students be taught to become socially responsible citizens.
Citing the example of Mizoram, he suggested “involving socially conscious NGOs for developing the civil society.”
Regarding the shortcomings in the implementation of certain schemes, he called upon the departments concerned to improve the delivery mechanism, and advised them to work in convergence, “rather than working in silos.”
Namsai DC Dr RK Sharma presented “the status overview of the district and its achievements in various rural development schemes.”
Issues such as difficulties faced by the departments in implementing social care schemes due to the distinct demography of Namsai; lack of market availability and processing units for oil palm cultivators; HR unavailability in the industries department; shortage of science and maths teachers, and other matters were highlighted.
The Namsai DPO presented the details of the 17 goals under the SDG. He highlighted the present status and aspirational targets.
The HoDs discussed various target gaps to take note of to improve their performances.
