TALO, 25 Feb: Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the golden jubilee Nyokum Yullo celebration here in Lower Subansiri district on Friday.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Khandu urged the people to maintain a balance between modernity and tradition.
“Every one of us gets busy with our respective lives. It is an occasion like Nyokum where people meet and share joy and happiness. Nyokum also makes people remain attached to their rich culture and tradition,” said Khandu, adding that everyone should strive to improve the happiness index of the state.
He also announced that a mini-secretariat would be established in Yachuli ADC headquarters.
Meanwhile, Khandu gave assurance that he would look into the issues plaguing the progress of the Itanagar-Jote two-lane state highway, work on which has been stopped by the contractor, alleging lack of proper funding by the state government.
Speaking to the media here on the sideline of the festival, the CM said that he has been made aware of the situation by a senior government official.
“After Nyokum, I will conduct a review meeting. There is no fund problem,” said Khandu. He also said that the progress of work so far is quite good.
“Advisor to PWD has inspected and told me that physical progress is good. The government definitely should pay the contractor on time. Work should not be stopped due to fund issues as there is enough fund for the project,” he said.
Khandu said that the Itanagar-Jote highway is important “as many big educational institutes are coming up in the Jote area.”
Earlier, on Thursday, the contractor of Arunachal’s first two-lane state highway threatened to stop the work, alleging that the state government is not providing sufficient funds to continue the work.
