Workshop on journalism and masscom organised

ITANAGAR, 12 Mar: The English department of Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) here organised a workshop on journalism and mass communication, themed, ‘Media in the age of information society’, on Saturday.

The panel of resource persons comprised Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) President Amar Sangno, APUWJ General Secretary Ranju Dodum, news and documentary journalist from The Space, Emma Don and Pill Yania, who is associated with the Arunachal Mirror and DDK Arun Prabha.

Sangno highlighted the trajectory of mass media and gave a clear view of their roles and responsibilities, while Dodum spoke on the core values of journalism, emphasising on accuracy, independence, impartiality, humanity and accountability to be upheld as the ethics of media.

Don spoke on the theme of ‘contextualising the future of digital media’. She said that the future of media in Arunachal Pradesh is bright “as long as more numbers of journalists and media houses are willing to serve with passion and patience.”

Yania spoke on the way forward for the media industry in Arunachal, and stated how imperative it is to create a safe ambience for the journalists to work truthfully and without fear.

DNGC Principal Dr MQ Khan applauded the English department for organising the workshop, and expressed hope that the students would reap maximum benefit out of it.

DNGC English HoD Nending Ommo informed that the department intends to organise a certificate course in journalism in the near future, in collaboration with the APUWJ and other regulatory authorities.

The workshop was attended by 389 students and faculty members of the college. It was coordinated by English Assistant Professors Yitu Murtem, Joram Reynu, Goli Nyodu, Tamo Yanga and Bomter Dirchi.
