SEPPA, 11 Apr: Nabam Yate was crowned Kingfisher Miss Arunachal, 2022 in the grand finale on Sunday night at the general ground here in East Kameng district.
She represented Papum Pare district.
23-year-old Yate is currently pursuing a master’s degree in social work at Rajiv Gandhi University. She did her graduation from Delhi University.
Radhe Mamung, who represented Lower Subansiri, was the first runner-up. The 24-year-old is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in agriculture science at the Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Manipur. She also won the ‘Miss Popular’ sub-title. This sub-title was awarded on the basis of the ‘likes’ she received on Facebook and Instagram. She was given direct entry to the top 10 finalists’ list.
The second runner-up title was won by Dyna Jomo.
Jomo represented Papum Pare district. She is currently pursuing bachelor of physiotherapy at Assam Down Town University.
Nedik Nabam, who represented Pakke-Kessang district, and Priscilla Latam Kimsing, who represented Changlang district, stood fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Other sub-title winners were Hosana Yekar Gyadu (Miss Beautiful Smile; Upper Subansiri), Techi Meena (Miss Photogenic; Papum Pare), Nedik Nabam (Best Catwalk), Bengia Mekia (Best Costume; Kurung Kumey), Hanakho Jamoh (Miss Talent; Siang) and Rikbi Koyu (Miss Congeniality; Lower Siang).
Koyu is an employee of SpiceJet and is currently serving as part of the airliner’s cabin crew.
The preliminary round was held among 40 selected contestants at Nyokum Lapang, Itanagar in January this year, and 25 contestants made it to the grand finale, said Miss Arunachal Organisation managing director Tai Roket.
Over 100 contestants participated in the auditions, which were held in various districts, he said.
The jury panel for the event comprised Miss Nagaland 2021 Kawimaningsillu, Miss Mizoram 2020 Zirsangpuii, Miss Sikkim 2022 Subhekcha Pradhan, and Itanagar Smart City CEO Dahey Sangno.
The Miss Arunachal beauty pageant is a calendar event of the state government, and was sponsored by the department of youth affairs.
Attending the grand finale, Tripura’s Tribal Affairs Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia lauded the Arunachal government for making Miss Arunachal pageant one of its calendar events.
“It not only provides a platform to expose the talents of the women in the field of beauty but is also a good platform to exchange culture and generate public awareness on the importance of preservation of forest and wildlife,” he said.
Jamatia said he would discuss with his government the matter of launching a similar event in Tripura.
Environment Minister Mama Natung said that the main objective of organising the event here was to “motivate the young girls and generate public awareness about the importance of wildlife preservation.”
Natung said that the chief minister has assured to enhance fund for conducting the beauty pageant.
MLAs Tapuk Taku and Hayeng Mangfi, Youth Affairs Director Ramesh Linggi, Joint Sports Director Karbia Dodum, and East Kameng DC Pravimal Abhishek Polumatla, among others, witnessed the grand finale.
The organisers acknowledged the help and support provided by the East Kameng DC, SP Rahul Gupta, PD Ashok Tajo and East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organisation in making the event a success.
The event was organised by Miss Arunachal Organisation, under the aegis of the Arunachal Guild for Cultural Integration.
