KOLKATA, 26 Apr: The Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals in Kolkata (WB) said it has “brought complete robotic renal transplant system for the first time in eastern India.”
“In conventional kidney transplant, the donor’s kidney is placed in the lower abdomen of the recipient by making an 8-10 inch cut, while the robotic transplant involves only a 1-2 inch cut and a few key holes for access inside the abdomen to join the blood vessels,” it informed in a release.
Kolkata Apollo Hospitals’ robotic surgeon Dr Vinay Mahendra said, “The primary benefit of robotic surgery for transplant is that it involves minor incisions and hence recovery is faster with much lesser complications. It also comes with less pain, lesser or no chance of infection as the incision is much smaller than the usual 8-10 inch cut, less hospital stay and early recovery and back to normal life.
“The procedure is suitable for all, except people with severe heart or lung problem,” he added.
For the last 35 years, the Apollo Hospitals Group has continuously been maintaining leadership in medical innovation, world-class clinical services and cutting-edge technology, he said.
