ITANAGAR, 19 May: The first meeting of the ad hoc committee on ‘Guidelines on Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005’ was held at the legislative assembly secretariat here on Thursday.
The committee members discussed in detail “the practical working, procedural lapses, lack of knowledge, dos and don’ts by all stakeholders while implementing the RTI Act, 2005,” Legislative Assembly (LA) Secretary Kago Habung informed in a release.
“The guidelines for information seekers under the Act was thoroughly perused and considered for further guidance for improvement for friendly and easier procedures,” the release stated, adding that “the committee expressed its unhappiness over the reported misuse of the RTI Act, 2005.”
During the debate on the floor of the house on 15 March this year, Chief Minister Pema Khandu proposed constituting a house committee to look into the matter “and examine for consideration by the house to a motion moved by MLA Ninong Ering relating to the guidelines on the Act,” the release stated.
Thursday’s meeting was attended by MLAs Ering, Tarin Dakpe and Kento Jini, besides CIC Rinchen, AR Secretary Ajay Chagti, Registrar Habung Donyi, and LA Secretary Habung.
“The meeting ended with a direction from the chair that the state’s advocate general and the law & judicial secretary to attend the next meeting and offer their suggestions,” the release added.
