Guv, Natung discuss conservation, sports

ITANAGAR, 3 Jun: Governor BD Mishra and Sports and Environment & Forests Minister Mama Natung discussed conservation of forests, biodiversity parks and promotion of sports during a meeting at the Raj Bhavan here on Friday.

The governor said that, on the occasion of World Environment Day, “the state government, particularly the environment & forests department, in collaboration with educational institutes, must plant maximum numbers of saplings.” He suggested roping in police personnel and members of the armed forces for the programme.

“On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, each child and each government official must plant a sapling and he or she must be encouraged to tend it till it grows,” the governor said.

He complimented the minister for organising the World Bicycle Day-2022 in the state capital, and expressed hope that it would encourage “healthy physical activities among the people.”

He advised the minister to promote all games and sports popular with the state’s youths, and to reward generously the sportspersons who have brought laurels for Arunachal.

Mishra also shared his views regarding forest land, wildlife sanctuaries, and ways and means to preserve nature’s bounty, stressing on “a fine balance between ecology and development.” (Raj Bhavan)
