ITANAGAR, 15 Jun: Itanagar Capital Region DC Talo Potom on Wednesday said that ‘prices of essential commodities will be regulated after verifying the rates with the wholesalers and obtaining the supply rates from neighboring states like Assam, West Bengal etc.’
The Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee, following a directive from the ICR deputy commissioner, had regulated the prices of agricultural and allied commodities, like meat, fruits, vegetables, cereal, pulses etc. in Itanagar.
However, after receiving complaints from the vendors, the DC convened a virtual meeting with the market associations, retailers and the vendors on Wednesday.
The wholesalers have requested the DC to regulate the prices of perishable and non-perishable items on a weekly basis.
The DC said that necessary directions will be issued to the officers concerned to visit the wholesale market to take stock of the prices.
“The administration is aware of the inflating market prices. However, it is necessary to regulate and set a fixed price for the convenience of all,” the DC said. He asked all to cooperate with the administration in implementing the prices to be fixed by district administration, which will be done keeping in mind the rising prices, transportation cost etc.
The DC further said that regular checking drives are being conducted by the enforcement squad to ensure that prices of commodities are not sold above the maximum retail prices. (DIPRO)
