KHONSA, 24 Jun: A ‘mega ex-servicemen rally’ was organised here in Tirap district on Friday by the Khonsa battalion of the Assam Rifles to reach out to the veterans, the veer naris and the widows of Tirap and Longding districts.
The rally, which was organised in collaboration with the Zilla Sainik Board, the Rajya Sainik Board and the district administration, was aimed at addressing various grievances of the ex-servicemen and resolving various pension anomalies and other problems faced by the veterans.
The rally witnessed a healthy interactive session between the ex-servicemen and civil/defence officials. The problems raised by the ex-servicemen were noted down for follow-up action with various institutions like record offices, the Zilla Sainik Board and the pension disbursing banks.
A health camp was also organised to provide medical assistance to the veterans.
The SBI and the district statistics department also established facilitation counters to assist and guide the veterans on issues related to Aaadhaar and banking.
The sector commander of the 25 Sector Assam Rifles reassured the veterans that the welfare of the ex-servicemen, both of the army and the Assam Rifles, remains the prime concern of the serving fraternity, and that the frequency of such interactions will be increased in the future to address the issues of the veterans.
The rally was attended by 130 veterans, two veer naris and 14 widows, besides officials from the district administration. (DIPRO)
