ANINI, 4 Jul: Dibang Valley District Tourism Officer Anung Lego and Anini CO Shanti Mize on Sunday launched a white water rafting event, organised by the Mishmi Takin Adventures (MTA), on the Dree river in Dibang Valley district.
The MTA is an adventure company run by a team of locals with the aim of promoting responsible tourism. The team strives to bring a change in the mindset of the people dependent on the wildlife and forests of the Mishmi hills, and to motivate and inspire them to acknowledge and appreciate the rich tradition and culture of the Mishmis that have conserved and fostered the forests and the wildlife.
The team is targeting to train and employ the locals engaged in hunting, “and divert the immense knowledge about the forest into tourism,” it said.
Classification of routes and grades:
Route 1: Karo to Acheso riverside camp (5 kms with Grades 1 and 2 rapids; safe for children).
Route 2: Cheyagu to Acheso riverside camp (12 kms approximately, with Grade 3 plus rapids).
