Mayor assures of support to preserve indigenous music, culture

NAHARLAGUN, 8 Jul: Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Tame Phassang assured to extend all possible support for the “preservation and endorsement” of the state’s indigenous folk music and culture.

He said this during the valedictory function of a five-day workshop on ‘Hindustani classical vocal’, organised here by the art & culture department, on Friday.

“The IMC also has a separate branch of social justice which also encourages youths in similar art and culture activities,” the mayor said.

Commending the department for organising the event, he suggested that similar programmes be organised on a large scale, “so that youths who are diverted to antisocial activities or drug abuse can avail such opportunities and concentrate on fruitful activities and make their career.”

“We all know that from sports to culture, our youths are not less than any other state; they only need a platform,” said Phassang.

Among others, Cultural Affairs Secretary Tai Kaye, Civil Aviation Director Tamuna Messar and Art & Culture Director Somcha Lowang attended the event.
