SAGOM, 26 Sep: A ‘training-cum-input distribution programme’ for farmers was organised here in Leparada district by the ICAR’s Basar-based regional centre (RC) on Monday.
ICAR RC Head Dr H Kalita briefed the farmers on the technologies developed by the ICAR to improve livelihood; insect pests of some winter vegetable crops; and application of biopesticides for effective management of insect pests.
Fruit science specialist Dr Thejangulie Angami explained organic management practices in rabi vegetables, and the methods of application of different organic inputs in horticultural crops that were later distributed to the farmers.
Genetics & plant breeding scientist Dr Letngam Touthang highlighted “maintenance of genetic purity in field and horticultural crops,” while soil science expert Dr Ampee Tasung shed light on “vermicomposting technology for soil fertility and improvement.”
Vermicompost (350 kgs), neem oil (24 litres), COC (24 kgs), cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli (100 gms each), pea (12 kgs), radish and carrot (500 gms each), spinach and coriander (2.5 kgs), etc, were later distributed among the farmers.
