NPP condemns killing of Longding businessman, seeks early arrest of culprit(s)

ITANAGAR, 10 Oct: The state unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of businessman Attar Singh Sharma in Longding by suspected NSCN (K-YA) operatives, and appealed to the chief minister and the home minister to “take cognisance of the incident and pass necessary instruction to the department concerned for immediate arrest of the main culprit under appropriate sections of the law.”

State NPP general secretary (org & IT) Paknga Bage in a release on Monday stated: “This is not the first incident that has taken place in the district. In the recent past, more than 12 cases of kidnapping took place in the district, because of which the peace and tranquillity of the area is disturbed, leading to failure of law and order in the district.

“Many NGOs also voiced against the district administration for its failure to manage the law and order of the district in recent past,” he added.

“The deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Longding district should take moral responsibility for the failure of law and order in the district for last several years, leading to kidnapping, extortion and murder cases in the district,” the release added.

Further, claiming “failure of the present DC and the SP in managing the administration, law and order of the district,” the NPP demanded immediate transfer of both the officers and sought posting of officers of the IAS and IPS cadres in the district “to regain the faith of the public in the district administration.”
