DAHUNG, 11 Feb: The National School of Drama organised a month-long ‘production-oriented residential theatre workshop’ at the Central Institute of Himalayan Cultural Studies (CIHCS) here in West Kameng district.
On Friday, during the valedictory function, around 20 school and undergraduate students who were groomed during the workshop presented a play titled ‘Hamro Samay’.
Addressing the function, Singchung ADC Mokar Riba commended the theatre team, and said that “a very good message from older to younger generation has been conveyed through the play.”
Tenga United chief patron Tenzin Nyima Glow, who also attended the function, urged the theatre team to “make a film with the same storyline.”
Among others, renowned filmmaker DK Thungon attended the valedictory function.
The play was designed and directed by Sukh Bashel, and supported by Karpu Chisi as assistant director, Guru Wangdi as acting improviser, and Rashmita Saikia as the voice, speech and acting faculty member. Mintu Shaan provided assistance in the art and cultural aspects of the play, while Dr Guru Dorjee Thongdok assisted as the photography expert.
‘Hamro Samay’ was conceptualised to showcase the migration of villagers to cities in search of employment, “affecting the ancestral culture and assets through an inter-caste love story between a Bugun boy and a Nepali girl. It highlighted the potential of agriculture, entrepreneurship and tourism perspectives of the region,” the CIHCS informed in a release.
The play also focused on the importance of the endangered bird species Bugun liocichla, which is reportedly found only in the Eaglenest bird sanctuary in West Kameng district.
