Workshop on gender budgeting commences

ITANAGAR, 21 Feb: Officials of government departments, along with panchayat members and members of CBOs, SHGs, NGOs and voluntary organisations, among others, are participating in a three-day state level workshop on gender budgeting, which began at the State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (SIRD&PR) here on Tuesday.

“The workshop is aimed at providing an opportunity to the participants to enhance their knowledge and skills in gender budgeting, which will help them develop a gender-responsive budget in their respective departments,” the SIRD&PR informed in a release.

The workshop will be conducted by experts in the field of gender budgeting, and will cover topics such as gender analysis, gender-responsive budgeting, and monitoring and evaluation of gender budgeting initiatives.

Gender budgeting is a process of incorporating a gender perspective into budgetary decisions and is an essential tool for promoting gender equality and empowering women. The workshop will provide the participants with a better understanding of gender budgeting and its importance in promoting gender equality.

In his opening remarks, SIRD&PR Director Habung Lampung said that “gender budgeting is an essential tool for promoting gender equality and empowering women. It is a process of analysing and allocating resources to address gender inequalities and promote gender-responsive policies.”

Lampung urged the participants to be “more responsible in discharging their assigned duties,” adding that “gender budgeting is a key parameter for planning at the zilla parishad and gram panchayat levels.”

SIRD&PR faculty member Tamar Baki presented a brief on the gender budgeting programme.

“The workshop is a significant step towards achieving gender equality and promoting women’s empowerment in Arunachal Pradesh,” the SIRD&PR added.
