GUWAHATI, 2 May: Arunachal Pradesh Water Resources Minister Mama Natung apprised the Brahmaputra Board of the technical and financial constraints being faced by Arunachal in implementing projects under the flood management and border area programme (FMBAP).
Participating in a high-powered review meeting of the board here in Assam on Monday, Natung appealed to the union jal shakti ministry to “consider approval of priority schemes under the FMBAP.”
The meeting was chaired by union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, along with union MoS for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Kailash Choudhury.
Shekhawat in his address asked the board to “work in tandem with the Central Water Commission, expand the scope of work, and fast-track the studies and strategies for a robust roadmap.”
The meeting was attended by, among others, water resources ministers and secretaries of various states of the Northeast, Brahmaputra Board Chairman Rajiv Yadav, Central Water Commission Chairman Kushvinder Vohra, and Jal Shakti Ministry Commissioner TS Mehra.
The e-office of the board and a coffee table book titled ‘Aamantran Brahmaputra’ were launched during the meeting.
