TAWANG, 2 May: Union School Education Department Director JB Pandey, who is also the nodal officer for the Vibrant Villages Programme in the state, was on an official tour of Tawang from 29 April to 2 May.
During the tour, the director visited the vibrant village project in Jemeithang, and interacted with the villagers and government officials there.
Upon his return to Tawang on Tuesday, he interacted with government officers at the circuit house and took stock of the activities being taken up by various departments. He also advocated promoting tourism “in a professional way.”
Pandey suggested upgrading the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya in Jemeithang to the secondary level “to check school dropouts, especially girls.”
He said that two digital device each will be provided to every secondary and senior secondary school of the district out of pocket, and suggested establishing a “composite culture centre” in Jemeithang “with the help of the Army, so that students can learn art, culture, games and sports, and avail of library facility at the same centre.”
Speaking about the agriculture and horticulture sectors, he said that, “under horticulture, walnut can be encouraged in large-scale.” In reply, the officials of the horticulture department informed that “the matter has already been taken up and people are growing walnut.”
The director asked the tourism department to provide information online about the trekking routes in Jemeithang, and said that “banking and postal service should be made available in Jemeithang at the earliest.”
Tawang DC Kesang Ngurup Damo presented some important books on Arunachal Pradesh to the director, who, on his part, presented some books, authored by himself, for the district library. (DIPRO)
