HAPOLI, 24 Oct: The Lower Subansiri police last Saturday arrested one Honi Helly from his rented apartment in Yazali for allegedly raping a 13-year-old school girl.

The arrest was made after the victim’s mother lodged an FIR at the women police station here, alleging that the accused raped her daughter.

Talking to this daily, DSP Ojing Lego informed that a case [u/s 363/376 (3) IPC, r/w Section 4 of the POCSO Act] has been registered and the matter is being investigated by the women police station.

“Immediately upon receiving the complaint, the police sprung into action and formed a team under the supervision of SP Keni Bagra, and apprehended the individual from his rented apartment in A Sector in Yazali,” informed Lego.

In the FIR, the victim’s mother gave a detailed account of the incident. The victim is a student of the government school.

“I had called the hostel warden to obtain information about my daughter’s puja break. I was informed by the warden that someone introducing himself as my son-in-law took my daughter with him, saying that he had been engaged to pick her up from the hostel. But she didn’t come home, and the whereabouts of my daughter were unknown the whole night. I spent a sleepless night,” she said in the FIR.

The next day, she received a call from a person in Yazali, informing that her daughter was seen crying in a rented apartment there. When a family member reached the place of occurrence, the victim told them of her ordeal.

“She was raped by the accused, and he also gave her a tablet. But she refused to take the tablet. My daughter has given a statement, detailing the assault she faced,” the mother stated in the FIR.

Further, she appealed to the law enforcement agency to “treat this case with utmost urgency and professionalism to ensure the safety of the children involved,” and to ensure justice for the victim.
