PASIGHAT, 18 Nov: A series of events, spread across four days – from 15 to 18 November – were organised in the run-up to the golden jubilee celebration of Daying Ering Memorial Government Higher Secondary School here in East Siang district.
The events included essay writing, drawing, poem recitation, debate and extempore speech competitions for the junior and senior categories on 15 and 16 November. As many as 150 students participated in them.
A mini-marathon, besides cockfights, musical chair, and sack race competitions were held on the 17th.
The mini-marathon was flagged off by Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong, Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, SP Sumit Kumar Jha, DDSE Odhuk Tabing, Chief Councillor Okiam Moyong Borang, and BJP mandal adyaksh Asar Padun, the college informed in a release.
The celebration committee’s chairman (publicity & souvenir) Boyem Jerang informed that the school conducted 100-mtr and 200-mtr races, a 1,500-mtr relay race, tug-of-war, and arm wrestling competitions (in collaboration with the East Siang District Arm Wrestling Association) on 18 November.
Members of the school’s 2009 batch, headed by Lige Ete, organised a plantation drive in the school campus, in addition to contributing money for the school’s renovation.
The main celebration will be from 2 to 3 December, the school said.
