BOMDILA, 24 Nov: Science teachers for Class 6 to 8 are participating in a six-month-long ‘science programme’, being conducted by Gurushala, in collaboration with the West Kameng DDSE, at the Asvagosh Library here in West Kameng district.
Gurushala, a teacher capacity-building programme, is an initiative of Indus Towers Ltd and Vodafone Idea Foundation, and is implemented by Pratham Education Foundation (PEF).
The programme, which commenced on Thursday, is aimed at equipping the educators with creative tools and strategies to make science education more engaging and relevant for the students.
The inaugural session, which was attended by, among others, DDSE LD Komu, featured “face-to-face sessions centered on the theme of ‘Introducing everyday science in the classrooms’,” the PEF informed in a release.
“Teachers are currently undergoing a comprehensive two-day training focused on hands-on experiments, activity-based learning, and promoting scientific temper. Customised science kits will be distributed to schools associated with the participating teachers, who will receive training in utilising these kits effectively in their classrooms,” it said.
Designated as ‘education leaders’, “these teachers will play a crucial role in conducting teaching-learning material and activity-based classes, instigating transformative changes in fostering scientific temper,” the release stated, and added that “virtual sessions will complement the face-to-face training in providing continuous support and professional development.”
The first day’s session included “activities related to A4 paper, and the second day will commence with a problem-solving, skills-boosting fun activity, followed by a session on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics),” it said.
