The last session of the 7th legislative assembly will be held on 8 and 9 February. Governor KT Parnaik on Monday issued the summons for the two-day assembly session. While the ruling BJP government has not specified any particular agenda for the session, words going around are that two new districts might be created during the session. As it is the final session of the 7th legislative assembly, the people of the state will be keenly watching how parties raise issues on the floor of the House.
While the BJP, which has a brute majority, is as usual expected to have easy sailing, the people of the state will watch how opposition parties perform. The principal opposition party, Congress, has four MLAs, led by its tallest leader, Nabam Tuki, former chief minister of the state. This is an opportunity for the Congress to raise some issues concerning the people of the state. Most of the time, assembly sessions are one-sided. The ruling party carries out its agendas without ever being strongly objected to by the opposition. It has become so monotonous that the essence of democracy does not prevail in the Arunachal legislative assembly. One can only hope that, in the last session, we will have some fiery debates and discussions.
