YINGKIONG, 5 Feb: A total of 25,249 voters will exercise their adult franchise during the forthcoming general elections in Upper Siang district.
“There are a total of 13,106 voters in the Tuting-Yingkiong assembly constituency and 12,143 voters in the Geku-Mariyang assembly constituency. The district also has 483 PwD voters,” Upper Siang DEO Hage Lailang said during a press briefing here on Monday.
Replying to a query regarding facilities for elderly persons, women, and PwD voters, the DEO informed that “two women polling stations have already been identified in the Tuting-Yingkiong and the Geku-Mariyang assembly constituencies.”
Separate queues and ramps for PwDs and elderly persons have also been arranged at all the polling stations, the DEO said.
He further informed that “robust SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme) activities have been conducted in all the villages on various occasions, such as Seva Aapke Dwar camps and national- and state-level events to generate awareness about the whole electoral process among the electors, particularly new voters.”
The DEO further informed that “first-level checking of EVMs has been done in the presence of representatives of all the political parties, and the EVMs have been kept in the strong room, which is under 24/7 security cover. (DIPRO)
