ZIRO, 21 Feb: Veteran Congress leader and former MLA Nani Ribia has resigned from the Congress party.
In a letter addressed to the state Congress party president, Ribia said he was resigning from the primary membership of the party on ‘personal ground.’
Ribia was the MLA of the 17th Ziro-Hapoli assembly constituency from 2004 to 2009. He had won the 2004 election as an independent.
Ribia also contested the assembly elections in 1990 as an independent candidate. In 1999, he contested the election on a BJP ticket, in 2009 as an AITMC candidate and in 2019 as an INC candidate.
Ribia had been the Block Congress Committee president from 1984 to 1987, general secretary of Lower Sugbansiri District Congress Committee from 1987 to 1990, general secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee from 1991 to 1994, vice president of Arunachal Congress from 1997 to 1999 and vice president-cum-spokesman of the BJP from 1999 to 2004.
Ribia was also the political secretary to former Chief Minister Gegong Apang from 1995 to 1999. (DIPRO)
