ITANAGAR, 16 Aug: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated at the Raj Bhavan here on 15 August, with Governor KT Parnaik unfurling the national flag and saluting it.
The Echo Company of the 33rd battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, attached to the Raj Bhavan, presented the guard of honour to mark the occasion.
In his address, the governor extended greetings to the people of the state, and said that “India’s Independence Day marks the birth of the world’s largest democracy.” He paid tributes to “the brave sons and daughters of India who made the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedom.”
Parnaik recalled the values that guided the nation’s founding fathers, along with the contributions of the freedom fighters, including Matmur Jamoh, Moje Riba, and many others who played crucial roles in the struggle for independence.
Describing the state’s youths as “the torchbearers of tomorrow,” he pointed out that “our creativity, innovation, and determination will shape the future of India.”
The governor further said that the Viksit Bharat@2047 vision “encapsulates the aspirations of a nation determined to build on its strengths, overcome challenges, and emerge as a beacon of prosperity, equality, and global leadership by 2047.”
He said that Arunachal is achieving this vision with collective effort, determination, and commitment to the ideals that have guided India’s journey so far.
“To realise this vision,” he said, “the focus should be on industrial growth, digital innovation, sustainable development, and creating a favourable environment for entrepreneurship.”
He added that “strengthening the education system, promoting vocational training, and encouraging research and innovation are essential steps towards achieving these goals.”
The governor and his wife Anagha Parnaik distributed sweets to the participating schoolchildren and the officials on the occasion.
Officers and staff of the Raj Bhavan, along with government departments’ officials attached to the Raj Bhavan, as well as students and teachers from government and private schools participated in the celebration. (Raj Bhavan)
