Refusal of coins by shopkeepers

Editor,

I am writing to bring to your attention a pressing issue impacting the economy of Arunachal Pradesh. During my ground reporting, I discovered that shopkeepers across the state are refusing to accept coins as payment, leading to a significant reduction in coin circulation. This issue has considerable consequences, causing inconvenience to citizens and disrupting the smooth functioning of our economy.

The root cause of this problem appears to be the banks’ reluctance to accept coins from shopkeepers, due to the time-consuming process of counting and depositing them. Consequently, citizens are left with large amounts of coins that have become effectively useless.

As a result, people are struggling to use coins for their daily transactions, and these coins are accumulating in their homes. This situation has led to a shortage of circulating coins in many parts of the state, ultimately affecting economic activity.

I urge the relevant authorities to address this issue and find a viable solution. It is crucial to ensure that coins remain an effective mode of payment and that their circulation is maintained.

I request that you publish this issue in your esteemed newspaper to highlight it to both the authorities and the public. By drawing attention to this problem, we can work towards a solution and restore the smooth functioning of our economy.
