RUKSIN, 5 Dec: Jonai Volleyball team from Assam defeated Namey (Lower Siang) team in the final match of the first ever Tapor Gao Memorial Volleyball Tournament, which played here on Thursday.
The champion team got a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh with the trophy. The runner-up team was awarded with Rs 70,000 and a trophy.
Attending the concluding ceremony of the tournament, Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu suggested to the players to maintain sportsmanship and fair play to win the support of the spectators. “The player who gains the support of the spectators is the actual champion,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering said that the budding players of Ruksin area have achieved a good track record in various district- and state-level sports events. He informed that the Sport Association of Ruksin has been organising different sport events round the year to keep the youths away from drug abuse and other evil practices.
Among others, Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang, East Siang DC Tayi Taggu and senior leader Ojing Aze spoke and advised the players to adopt games and sports and lead healthy lives.
A total 18 teams from different districts of Arunachal and neighbouring Assam participated in the tournament.
