YOMCHA, 24 Jan: Members of SHGs participated in a capacity-building programme on multidisciplinary subjects, organised by the ICAR AP Centre and the West Siang KVK here in West Siang district on Friday.
The programme was aimed at imparting scientific knowledge on horticulture crops cultivation, agronomical practices, and year-round oyster mushroom cultivation.
Addressing the participants, ICAR AP Regional Centre Head Prof Lobsang Wangchu emphasised the need for cultivating valuable and suitable crops in Yomcha region for income generation. He added that “we can somewhat overcome the market demand for fruits and vegetables by farming suitable seasonal vegetables and fruit crops.”
KVK Head Dr Manoj Kumar spoke on agronomical practices for healthy growth and good yield of crops. He also highlighted the conversion of agricultural waste into organic manure, such as vermicompost and compost.
KVK plant protection scientist Dr Kangabam Suraj Scovered the technical aspects of oyster mushroom cultivation, including cropping room structure, hygienic maintenance, and disease and pest management, and demonstrated oyster mushroom cultivation through hands-on training.
Later, Yomcha ZPM Jomde Gamlin distributed mushroom spawn, misting sprayers, polybags, rubber bands, chemical disinfectants, and seasonal vegetables’ seeds to the selected SHG.
