LIKABALI, 14 May: Lower Siang deputy commissioner Rujjum Rakshap on Wednesday convened a meeting with administrative officers, department heads, and security forces to review the district’s readiness for the upcoming South-West Monsoon and develop a comprehensive disaster management plan.
The DC directed concerned departments and stakeholders to remain updated and prepared to mitigate any eventuality during and after disasters. He emphasized coordinating with the administration to update contingency plans and prepare resource lists.
Describing Lower Siang district as one of the vulnerable disaster prone districts, the DC emphasized the District Disaster Management Authority’s (DDMA) critical role in making advance preparations to respond effectively during disasters and similar situations.
As chairman of the DDMA, he appealed to the members to synchronise the activities of all departments and agencies to cope with any kind of situation for the safety of the people.
District disaster management officer Alokong Perme was tasked with coordinating with departments to ensure prompt service delivery during disasters affecting life and property.
In a separate meeting, the District Executive Committee reviewed damage reports from the 2024 monsoon season to extend relief assistance as per the SDRF guidelines.
A similar meeting was also held at Basar, the district headquarters of Leparada, under the chairmanship of DC Atul Tayeng on Wednesday.
The deputy commissioner underscored the importance of inter-departmental coordination in mitigating disaster risks through proactive preparedness and precautionary measures.
He urged all department heads to submit updated inventory lists for inclusion in the India Disaster Resource Network Portal, ensuring resource availability and swift mobilization during emergencies.
All line departments were directed to report any incident immediately through the District Disaster Management Authority forum to facilitate prompt action.
Tayeng called upon all stakeholders to maintain vigilance and remain prepared to effectively respond to any monsoon-related eventualities.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the district administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public through robust disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
DDMO T. Pema highlighted the importance of monsoon and heat wave preparedness using a PowerPoint presentation.
She also outlined the roles and responsibilities of each department and emphasized the need for the timely submission of daily situation reports. (DIPROs)
