HAYULIANG, 23 Jan: The Anjaw Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) organised a two-day vocational training programme on ‘training and pruning of kiwi fruits’ at Rittiliang and Danglat villages from 21-22 January.

Twenty-five participants, including farmers, farmwomen, and rural youths, attended the programme, during which horticulture scientist Satveer Yadav delivered a lecture on training and pruning of kiwi fruit plants, and explained the role of training and pruning in kiwi cultivation.

“The main objective of pruning is to obtain high yield and quality fruits, and to manage excessive vegetative growth,” Yadav said.

The pruning operation in kiwi fruit is carried out in two seasons: winter (January-February) and summer (June-July).

KVK Head Dr Debasis Sasmal highlighted that the climatic conditions of Anjaw district are well suited for kiwi fruit cultivation, making it a potential fruit crop of the district. He urged the farmers to adopt scientific methods of training and pruning of kiwi plants to enhance their production and productivity.
