ITANAGAR, 13 Feb: Health professionals created awareness among people on the importance of maintaining good oral health during an oral health and oral cancer screening camp organised as part of the International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Day observation at the VKV, Police Training Centre, Banderdewa, on Friday.
The event was organised by the Arunachal Pradesh branch of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India.
The organisers distributed free toothpastes and toothbrushes to the people with a message to improve oral hygiene. Pamphlets showing how to do self-detection of oral cancer at home were also distributed to the participants.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India Northeast chapter president Dr Rime Ngulom Potom highlighted the harmful effects of consuming tobacco and tobacco products like cigarette, beedi, pan masala, gutkha, betel nut, etc, and urged the people to go for regular oral health check-ups.
Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India’s state representative Dr Luksi Jilen, assistant professor of the dentistry department at the TRIHMS, also appealed to the people to maintain oral hygiene by properly cleaning the mouth.
Around 300 people, including students, teachers and non-teaching staff of the school were screened for various oral problems.
