ZIRO, 6 Mar: Four hydraulic garbage tipper trucks were handed over to the Lower Subansiri District Health Society (DHS) on Friday by the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.
The formal handing over and flagging-off ceremony was organised in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Indian Oil’s Assam Oil Division Senior Manager (HR-CSR) Malati Malakar expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to contribute towards community welfare.
She lauded the district administration’s plastic-free Ziro initiative, and expressed hope that the addition of four garbage tipper trucks would further strengthen the ‘Clean Ziro, Green Ziro’ movement in the district.
The deputy commissioner appreciated the efforts of NGO Smile Ziro and conveyed her sincere thanks to the IOCL for supporting the district’s environmental initiatives through its CSR programme.
She also acknowledged the contribution of former deputy commissioner Vivek HP for his role in facilitating the initiative that led to the realisation of the project.
Smile Ziro played a vital role in arranging the trucks from the IOCL.
District Medical Officer Dr Millo Kunya also spoke on the occasion.
The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen waste management infrastructure in the Ziro valley and support ongoing efforts towards building a cleaner and greener district. (DIPRO)
