ITANAGAR, 6 Mar: Governor KT Parnaik has extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Unying Aran festival of the Adi community, and expressed hope that this year’s festivity would “continue to strengthen our bonds with one another and with nature, which has always been at the heart of our way of life.”
In his message, the governor said that Unying Aran, celebrated every March, marks the Adi New Year and the beginning of a new agricultural cycle. “The festival, rooted in traditional practices such asĀ rodent trapping, reflects the community’s deep understanding of nature and sustainable farming. These age-old practices help protect crops while maintaining ecological balance before the sowing of the main rice crop,” he said.
“On this occasion, I offer my prayers to almighty Donyi Polo, seeking blessings for peace, prosperity, and harmony for all. May the coming year bring abundance to our fields, wellbeing to our people, and renewed resolve to safeguard our forests, wildlife, and natural heritage, so that future generations may inherit a land that is as rich, vibrant, and life-giving as it is today,” the governor said.
