ITANAGAR, 6 Mar: Himalayan University  (HU) organised a ‘legal awareness programme-cum-International Women’s Day celebration’ at the university campus here on Friday. The programme aimed to promote women’s empowerment through legal education, awareness, and leadership development.

The HU conferred the ‘Women Educational Excellence Award’ to six women faculty members in recognition of their outstanding contributions to education, research, and academic excellence, to mark the occasion.

Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Chairperson Yalem Tage Burang in her address stressed the importance of strengthening institutional mechanisms and legal awareness to safeguard women’s rights and dignity.

Itanagar-based 138 Battalion CRPF Second-in-Command Nisha Mol C delivered an inspiring speech, emphasising the role of women in leadership and uniformed services. She encouraged students to pursue their ambitions with confidence and determination.

HU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Prakash Divakaran highlighted the importance of universities in promoting legal literacy, gender equality, and social awareness.

Forum for Legal Literacy (FFL) chairperson Radilu Chai Techi emphasised the role of legal education in strengthening democratic values and empowering women to understand and exercise their rights. FFL member Tarh Naki highlighted the importance of legal awareness among students and women in society.

During the technical sessions, Rajiv Gandhi University Assistant Professor Dr Zilpha Modi delivered a presentation on basic gender rights and entitlements, while Yupia District and Sessions Judge Dr Hirendra Kashyap spoke on legal rights and protections available to women under the Indian law.

Dagrik Gora Ingo from Midpu State Mental Hospital spoke on the importance of mental health awareness among students, while Assistant Professor Cholaraja M from Campus Law Centre, faculty of law, University of Delhi, delivered a presentation on women’s empowerment, with special reference to political empowerment.

A host of senior university officials and faculty members, including Registrar Vijay Tripathi attended the programme, the university informed in a release.
