Editor,
For many decades there have been various allegations regarding misuse of PwD certificates in order to get government jobs in Arunachal Pradesh. The time has come to take serious action against such individuals by the state government. The government should take suo motu action against such individuals and proper verification must be done before appointing them.
If found guilty, severe punishment should be given to individuals with fake PwD certificates. They are depriving the real and genuine PwD candidates of their right and privilege. If the allegations are true, it would be a shame that people would go to such a low in order to get government jobs, depriving real people with disabilities.
Just imagine the hardship faced by persons with disabilities. They are already less privileged in their lives compared to normal persons, more so in competitive examinations. The government has given them some relief by introducing the PwD quota in government jobs, and some people want to take that away too, with fake PwD certificates.
Therefore a precedent must be set at the earliest. Before appointment, the following must be done:
- Proper medical verification of candidates selected under the PwD quota by constituting a new medical board.
- If found guilty, severe punishment should be given to the candidates with fake PwD certificates.
- Severe punishment should be given to the medical board or the doctor issuing fake PwD certificates.
- Whether a candidate fulfils the eligibilities to be selected under the PwD quota must be ascertained. Allegations of people with minor disability getting selected through PwD quota is a major concern.
- Various welfare associations, especially associations fighting for the rights of disabled persons, should raise their voice if the allegations are found to be true.
