ITANAGAR, Jan 8: Governor Dr BD Mishra on Monday led from the front a cleanliness drive launched by the Raj Bhavan to make the capital garbage-free.
On the first day of the cleanliness drive, themed ‘Hamara elan swachhta aur nari utthan’, employees of the Raj Bhavan and the Itanagar Municipal Council, along with other volunteers cleaned the Mithun Gate and Nyokum Lapang areas of Itanagar.
The drive was also joined by Urban Development Minister Nabam Rebia, local MLA Techi Kaso, and UD Secretary SK Jain.
The governor appealed to the people to keep their surroundings neat and clean. He advised them to segregate the biologically degradable and non-degradable items in separate dustbins before placing them in the designated places.
“There are three types of major wastes,” the governor said. “Empty gutkha packets and cigarette butts; polythene carry bags; and empty liquor bottles,” and urged the people to avoid these items.
Saying that women’s development is part of ‘Hamara elan swachhta aur nari utthan’, the governor expressed happiness on seeing a large number of women in the cleanliness drive.
“If our women come forward and participate in health and hygiene programmes, our society will have inclusive development,” he said.
The cleanliness drive will continue till next month. (PRO to Raj Bhavan)
