ITANAGAR, Sep 13: The Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) is set to felicitate the first senior state football team which took part in the 43rd Senior National Football Championship (Santosh Trophy) at Kannur, Kerala in 1993.
The team members will be invited as special invitees during the inaugural ceremony of the T K Arunachal Super League- 2017 scheduled to start from September 23 onwards.
Informing this, APFA General Secretary Kipa Ajay said it will be an honour to felicitate these living legends of Arunachal football as they were first to represent state at such a big event on national scene.
Present Director of Youth Affairs, D K Dinglow, Papum Pare District Sports Officer, OB Metei and Tamat Gamoh were the team manager, coach and captain respectively of the team that participated in the Santosh Trophy of 1993.
The other team members include Gumpe Rime, Gumnya Karbak, Tasuk Ramching, K Mukherjee, C S Manchi, Okom Tamuk, Tabai Saroh, Nada Apa, Ajij Panyang, Tamang Taying, Gyamar Siang, Obi Tangu, Narzary, David, CW Manlai, Sanjiv Pangin and Lalzira.
“These legends have gone on to achieve several milestones in their life. Gumpe Rime is today one of the top goalkeeping coaches of the country, while many members of the team, including Gumnya Karbak have become sports officers. Hopefully, their achievements will inspire the young generation to take up sports as a career,” Ajay added.
