BOMDILA, Sep 13: The Sartang tribe of West Kameng district is celebrating the four-day Tang festival at Ashu Zeng Zeng ground, Jerigaon under Nafra circle from Tuesday.
Attending the festivities, Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Family Welfare, Phurpa Tsering called for celebrating Tang festival in a grand manner every year.
Regarding the demand for creation of a new circle in Sartang dominated area, he asked the deputy commissioner and Nafra EAC to look into the matter under the guidelines of the state government and assured to raise the issue during the Assembly session.
He further assured to sanction Rs 20 lakh for construction of cultural hall at Jerigaon under BADP or MLA LAD fund.
In his address, Bomdila MLA cum Advisor to CM Japu Deru called upon the Sartang tribe to preserve their tradition and culture for future generations. Festival is not for entertainment only, it should be preserved for posterity, he said.
West Kameng Deputy Commissioner, Dr Sonal Swaroop also highlighted the importance of indigenous festivals.
