ROING, 31 May: The police here in Lower Dibang Valley district arrested three persons, aged between 19 and 21 years, for possessing and consuming contraband substances, during a raid on the night of 30 May in Parbuk village.
DSP Ringu Ngupok, along with Inspector RK Mishra and team raided the area after receiving information from reliable sources, and caught the drug abusers red-handed.
Ngupok informed that they had been receiving complaints about drug consumption and peddling in Parbuk area for some time now, and hence the police were on the lookout to check these illegal activities.
During the raid, approximately 5 grams of heroin, 300 gms of marijuana, three syringes, seven lighters, one bamboo pipe and four small plastic containers were seized from their possession.
The three culprits are in police custody, and a case has been registered against them under Section 21 (a)/27 of the NDPS Act.
The DSP said that any person found to be indulging in drug consumption and/or peddling will be dealt with harshly.
“The youth especially should be made aware that if they indulge in such activities, the authorities are going to take strict action against them,” he said.
“This is a request to all the CBOs, NGOs, student unions and others to help out in containing this menace and to report such activities for action. A message should be passed on to all youths not to indulge in drugs consumption and activities; else strict action will be initiated at any cost to make the society clean and save the future of our district,” Ngupok said.
