RONO HILLS, 13 Jul: A national webinar on painting and sculpture, organized by the fine arts & music department of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) on Tuesday brought together faculty members, researchers, students and other interested persons in the field of art from across the country.
Participating in the webinar, RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha delivered a talk on “the unique nature of the fine arts course and its special requirements to grow as a healthy discipline.”
Pro-VC Prof Amitava Mitra highlighted the ongoing process for bifurcation of the present department into two independent departments for fine arts and music.
RGU Registrar Dr NT Rikam spoke on the importance of “conducting art education in physical mode.” At the same time, he also stressed on “the importance of interactive webinars in the absence of real physical interaction and teaching-learning activity.”
Fine arts institution Kalabhavan’s principal, Prof Pankaj Panwar, who is a nationally awarded contemporary artist in the field of sculpture, gave a presentation on the topic, ‘Evolution of sculpture and contribution of material’.
He spoke about “the changing language and evolution of sculpture-making.” He also displayed his own works.
“The natural environment of Arunachal Pradesh can provide abundant resources for environmental sculptures,” he opined.
Dr Rajkumar Mazindar from Assam University, Silchar, spoke about his evolution as an artist, and made a presentation on ‘Creative journey of a visual artist from North East – A self assessment’.
A well-known contemporary artist from the Northeast region, Dr Mazindar’s works have been showcased on many important national and international platforms.
