PwDs seek  4% job reservation

ITANAGAR, 13 Jul: The Arunachal Handicapped Welfare Society has appealed to the state government to direct all the government departments to implement the 4 percent job reservation for persons with disabilities (PwD) in letter and spirit.

In a memorandum to the chief minister, the society rued that some government departments are not implementing the job reservation for the PwDs, despite the departments having such provision.

It also appealed to the chief minister to ensure that “disable pensions” are paid to bona fide PwDs regularly as they are facing financial hardships due to the pandemic.

Stating that the state’s advisory board on PwDs remains defunct since its constitution, the society urged the chief minister to reconstitute the board.

It appealed for appointment of an experienced and qualified member from among the PwDs as “assistant disable commissioner,” in line with various other states, to look after the affairs of the PwDs. The society also sought “implementation of the national handicapped finance corporations,” so that the PwDs can avail subsidized loans from micro-financiers or other financial establishments to start small businesses on their own.
