ITANAGAR, Jan 23: The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has demanded immediate construction of the Potin-Pangin stretch of the Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH), failing which the union said it would launch a democratic movement.
Drawing the attention of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who also holds the PWD, Finance and Planning portfolios, towards the deplorable condition of the road, the ANSU in a memorandum expressed dismay over the inordinate delay in starting the construction work on the highway despite sanctioning of compensation amounts against the land acquired for construction of the highway by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
The ANSU alleged that the authority concerned and the executing agencies are turning a deaf ear to the repeated representations submitted by the public demanding early construction of the road.
The union said that roads are being left unattended in dilapidated conditions ever since the state Highway department took over from the BRTF, causing great inconvenience to the commuters.
It said that all formalities, including disbursement of compensation against the land acquired for construction of the Bopi to Tai portion of the highway, have been completed by the district administration concerned.
‘But, regretfully, work has not been started yet,’ the memorandum stated, and demanded immediate construction of the road from Bopi to Tai, and maintenance of the road from Potin to Bopi.
