ROING, Jan 24: Seven people are feared dead and four others injured, two of them seriously, in a road accident near Mayudia this morning.
The accident occurred at around 9:30 am when an SUV (Bolero) with 11 passengers (bearing registration number AS 23Q 1088) fell into a deep gorge, some 2 kms on the way to Mayudia.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly lost control while negotiating a sharp turn to avoid another vehicle approaching from the opposite direction .
The grievously injured passengers, identified as driver Mintu Ali (26) and Samsad Saikia (21) have been referred to Dibrugarh for further medical attention.
Two other persons, Wasim Akram (27) and Mujahid Islam (22) are said to be in stable condition and are undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Roing.
Seven other passengers: Ashid Ansari (19), Parvez Khan (20), Ansar Ahmad (30), Anwar Husain (22), Irshad Husain (20), Amir Husain (20), and Nausad Saikia (21) are feared dead.
The rescue operation is hampered as the accident site is hard to reach. The rescue operation by the Roing unit police was underway till filing of this report.
The rescue operation was also assisted by the Army detachment DAO Division.
