ITANAGAR, Jan 25: Governor Dr BD Mishra on Thursday expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic participation of the councillors and ward members of the Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) in the cleanliness drives conducted under the theme ‘Hamara Elan Swachhta aur Nari Utthan’.
Addressing councillors at the Raj Bhavan, he also commended the NGOs and SHGs, especially women SHGs, involved in the drive.
In an effort to make ‘midterm corrections’ with regard to the 25-day cleanliness drive, the governor has invited innovative ideas and suggestions to further strengthen the drive to keep the capital clean.
Observing that some departments were not keeping their premises clean, the governor asked them to improve the situation. He also advised the IMC to involve the market associations, and to create awareness among the shopkeepers.
The councillors suggested that there should be a provision to penalize people for littering, and for proper enforcement of recovering civic charges.
They suggested that each family – particularly those living in rented houses – pay separate civic charges. They also suggested issuing notices to departments that keep their premises untidy.
In the morning, as part of the cleanliness drive, the governor, along with Raj Bhavan officers and staff cleaned the shadow areas of Gandhi Market. (PRO to Governor)
