TALO, 17 Nov: Home Minister Bamang Felix advocated for accelerating the changes required to fight climate change and fostering an environment of responsible choices within the society while declaring the 7th General Conference of Talo Literature and Cultural Society (TLCS) open at the general ground here in Lower Subansiri district on Tuesday.
“Global warming is a global emergency that goes beyond borders. It is an issue that requires coordinated solutions at all levels,” he added, while stating that “reforestation and ecosystem protection can slow global warming.”
Donating five months of his salary for aforestation activities in the area, he said that Talo being a part of the catchment area for supplying water to places like Joram and Yachuli, needs to strategize and focus on economic activities that are sustainable and does not harm the forest cover of this area.
“An intellectual body like the TLCS will have to motivate and guide the people in this line,” he added.
DIGP Kime Aya and Deputy Commissioner Somcha Lowang also spoke on the occasion.
Meritorious students, achievers in various fields from Talo village were also felicitated during the program.
On the occasion, Felix also inaugurated an indoor badminton court, which has been constructed by the TLCS.
The minister earlier unveiled two sanctity pillars; the pillar of ‘HOPE’ at Government Higher Secondary School Talo and the ‘Unity in Diversity’ pillar at the general ground. (DIPRO)
