PASIGHAT, 5 Sep: Seventy-one farmers participated in a farmers-scientists interaction programme organised by the East Siang KVK and the College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) here on Tuesday.
Imphal (Manipur)-based Central Agricultural University (CAU) Vice Chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra advised the farmers to “develop community-based farming, which will reduce the load on unnecessary expenditure and increase the utilisation of available resources.”
“At present, farmers take their crops to markets to sell, but if the crop is produced in bulk, the market will come to the village, and in such case, the farmers can negotiate their selling price,” Mishra said.
He urged the KVK’s scientists to “try and integrate different programmes at the village level to make the schemes and programmes more effective through a single window for the benefit of the farmers.”
CHF Dean Dr BN Hazarika emphasised on “balanced earning and spending, because one needs to know where the maximum expenditure is and should develop a strategy to minimise the expenditure.”
Among others, CAU (I) Extension Education Director Dr Ph Ranjit Sharma, KVK senior scientist in-charge Dr SM Hussain, and the KVK’s subject matter specialists participated in the programme.
