ITANAGAR, 21 Feb: The GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, North-East Regional Centre (GBPNIHE-NERC) organized an awareness programme for school children on biodiversity conservation and climate change at Guardian Angel School here on Wednesday.
The main objective of the programme was to educate the school children on the connection between climate change and biodiversity in the Northeastern Himalayan region.
Scientist C at GBPNIHE-NERC Tridipa Biswas highlighted the causes and effects of climate change with specific focus on the Northeastern region of India.
She said that the environmental degradation and the looming threat of climate change are posing a threat to the fragile ecosystem and its biodiversity.
JPF at GBPNIHE-NERC Surendra K. Varma elucidated the threats to biodiversity stemming from the climate change in Northeast India and underscored the urgent need for conservation measures.
Guardian Angel School vice principal Alex M also spoke on the occasion and encouraged the students to plant more trees.
