MIAO, Mar 25: One Ngasingpam Ngalung @ Apam Tangkhul, who was apprehended by the Jairampur battalion of the Assam Rifles, is not an active member of the NSCN (IM), according to his bailer in an earlier case.
The bailer, Nyilun Kimsing, of Sonking village here in Changlang district, said Ngalung was previously arrested in 2014 under various sections of the law, including the Arms Act, and was released in 2016.
She said that at the time of the arrest, Ngalung had been an active member of the NSCN (IM). He was granted bail by the court of the sessions judge, East sessions division, Tezu, in 2014, and thereafter left for his native place in Ukhrul district of Manipur, though the legal proceedings continued.
In order make it easier for Ngalung to attend the court regularly, Kimsing employed him to work under her husband, for a salary, in November 2017.
According to Kimsing, Ngalung was returning from the work site on 22 March when he was apprehended by security forces on the way.
“In fact, he had been summoned to the court of the sessions judge, Tezu, on the very same day, and reportedly was in possession of the summons notice when he was arrested,” she said.
Ngalung meanwhile is in custody at the police station here. A fresh case – No 6/18 u/s 384 IPC r/w Sec 13 UAP Act – has been registered against him, following the FIR lodged by the Assam Rifles.
Reportedly, Ngalung himself is also denying any allegiance with the NSCN (IM).
