ITANAGAR, Sep 4: Health and Family Welfare Minister Jomde Kena passed away in Guwahati around 9 pm on Monday after a prolonged illness.
His body will be flown back to Naharlagun helipad on Tuesday.
Kena, who represented Likabali constituency, was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in 2004. He was re-elected to the House from the same constituency in 2009 and 2014.
Kena was elected as Deputy Speaker during Nabam Tuki Government and served as Parliamentary Secretary under the Dorjee Khandu and Jarbom Gamlin ministries.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu had expressed shock and grief over the sad demise of Kena.
Pema, who is currently in the national capital, conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the people, especially of Likabali Assembly Constituency.
“The sudden demise of Jomde Kena, who as a member of Team Arunachal had just started to bring reforms in the Health Department, is a bolt from nowhere”, said the CM in a statement.
“In his demise, our state has lost a seasoned politician and I have lost an elder brother, who was more than a friend,” he said.
