NGINU, 28 Oct: A training programme on ‘Timely land preparation and sowing of Toria (TS-67)’ was organized by a team of the Longding KVK,comprising KVK Head (i/c) A Kirankumar Singh, agriculture extension scientist Dr B Srishailam, and L&WM engineering experts Dr Amit Kumar, Kulend Khunchow and Bhaskar Kalita, here on Monday.
A total of 58 participants, including SHG members and farmers, attended the training, which was led by Nginu GPC Nyalai Wangsa.
During the programme, Singh highlighted the method and time of land preparation, sowing of seeds, nipping, irrigation schedule, nutrient and weed management for successful and maximum production of Toria in the village.
Dr Srishailam spoke about centrally-sponsored schemes which are operated all over the country for the welfare of the farmers, “which are not accessed by the Longding district farmers.”
Dr Kumar highlighted the importance of efficient use of land and water management in the field “to produce maximum yield with minimum quantity.”
Singh also spoke about the wrong methods and time of cultural practices carried out by the farmers in thecultivation of potato and pea, leading to 30-40% yield loss.
Later, Singh distributed seeds of Toria (TS-67) and VL Sabji Matar-13 under the frontline demonstration on oilseeds and pulses, apart from seeds of onion and maize.
