Capacity building prog for farmers conducted

PASIGHAT, 8 Aug: The East Siang Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) on Friday conducted a capacity building programme on ‘Improved production technology of potential fruit crops’, with focus on dragon fruit, avocado, jackfruit, and guava, here in East Siang district.

The programme, organized on the occasion of the National Horticulture Day, aimed at promoting sustainable fruit cultivation and enhancing farmers’income in the district.

College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) Dean Prof A Herojit Singh, KVK Head Dr Brijendra Singh Rajawat, Dr N Devachandra, Dr PK Nimbolkar and Dr V Bhargav from the CHF, and SDHO Oyin Tayeng were the resource persons of the programme.

During the programme, the potential of dragon fruit and avocado as emerging high-value crops in the region and the traditional importance of jackfruit and guava were highlighted. The farmers were provided with in-depth knowledge about scientific propagation and planting techniques, high-yielding and region-suitable varieties, integrated nutrient and water management, pest and disease management, post-harvest handling, marketing, and value addition.

Eight-eight participants from across the district werepresent during the programme. A total of 4,000 saplings, including avocado, were distributed to the participants by the KVK.
